On the cusp of home improvement

The holidays and the first quarter of the new year are always very fast times for me, for lack of a better word.  The time between mid-November and the end of February goes past in a whirl of activity.
The holidays are strange, when you’re self-employed and on the road.  For most folks, the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is a vacation time–you’ve got a week or more of vacation time to burn, you travel, you see folks you don’t always see.

Here on the Incorrigible, we travel all the time, and I have to write every day whether it’s a holiday or not.  (Not that I do.  But I ought to.)  The brief respite from “real life” that the holidays represent (for better or for worse) for most people just isn’t there for us.  We don’t particularly need to escape “real life,” since we’ve gone to some lengths to make said life interesting enough to be a part of 24/7.  As a result, while Christmas was enjoyable, it didn’t have the mythic quality of the average childhood holiday.

The lack of snow didn’t help, either.

The sense of anticlimax has Lexie and I feeling a bit off-balance, in a mild way.  Things are going to be hectic for the next few weeks as well.  The North American International Auto Show in Detroit is coming up, and we’ll be trekking to Detroit in the AEV to attend.  Not quite three weeks later, the Chicago Auto Show will have us racing up north again.  There will be plenty of pictures and snide comments.

On top of the travel, we’ve also got some home improvement to do.  We’ve acquired some necessary upgrades for the Incorrigible, and now that the weather’s a bit warmer (and we’re not busy with family and holidays) it’s time to start installing ‘em.  More on that as it happens.

In general, however, life on the moho is continuing to demonstrate the expected upsides (being able to be close to friends and family without leaving “home,” convenience to new places, and a generally simplified life) and the downsides (this place gets really cluttered, really fast!  Prompt housekeeping is a vital RV life skill) that we’ve talked about on and off thus far.
